Remembering Harry Genant

It is with great sadness that we inform you that our friend and esteemed Board member, Dr. Harry Genant, died peacefully at home on January 14th. Harry was kind, accomplished and a strong supporter of the Foundation. He leaves a legacy as a pioneer for better healthcare and a warm, caring, contributing member of our community and the wider world.

Harry K. Genant, MD, was Professor Emeritus of the University of California San Francisco and served as a Senior Consultant and past Member of the Board of Directors and Chairman Emeritus of Bioclinica-Synarc, Inc., a global contract research organization he co-founded in 1998, specializing in the management of quantitative imaging and bio markers in large multicenter, multinational pharmaceutical drug trials.

During his 30+ years at UCSF, Dr. Genant was Professor of Radiology, Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery, and former Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology. He also founded the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group, comprising over 130 physicians, scientists and research associates, and was recognized as a leading source of research on the development and assessment of noninvasive and quantitative imaging methods for osteoporosis, arthritis and orthopedics.

“Dr. Genant was internationally known and revered by the medical community and was a caring and thoughtful friend and neighbor – his unselfish input on the work of the Napa Medical Research Foundation was invaluable,” says former fellow Board member Joanne DePuy. Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail Genant, MD; children Laura, Jonathan, and Justin, as well as five grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
